A mental languor settles in as the crashing of waves recedes into the background. My face feels hot and heavy as the redness of the sun paints my skin. A twinge embeds itself into each calf as I slowly make my way up the slant of the beach, thousands of grains of sand nestling themselves in between my toes. Two friends speed past at a ferocious pace, slightly dizzying me in my already daze-like state.

A quick shower and a comb through sandy hair, the brightest of suns now replaced by the darkest of rooms and the loudest of bass. Summer exhaustion is substituted for an instinctual desire, an instinctual longing. Eyes closed, my body melts into the bass in synchrony as a kaleidoscopic ray of colors fill my heavy eyes. There’s a fluidity of the crowd. A fluidity of sound. A fluidity of now. This is the life of which we live.
