City Dweller – ‘S/T’

Happening upon City Dweller‘s debut self-titled cassette was a total surprise. This London band specializes in a rather raw brand of post-hardcore punk that calls back the mid-1980′s. It seems kind of pointless called it post-hardcore these days, because in reality the term really doesn’t hold any contemporary meaning. I mean, in the internet age can something truly be post-anything? I suppose that it was this realization that made these six tracks so appealing to me.
With an edge that feels as true as anything that was released in the Washington D.C. scene, it’s as if City Dweller has scrapped everything that has come along since if only for a few moments. They’ve captured a spirit that was at one time location-specific and made it feel authentic. And in 2012 that’s no small feat.
