Fresh Cut: Glam Shell – ‘Soul & Stardust’ EP

Louisville, KY’s glitch-hop soul master, Glam Shell (aka Drury Graham), chops up classic R&B samples and reshapes them into full blown, Dilla-esque head-nodders. The thing that really separates Glam Shell‘s work from the large crop of bedroom producers making Dilla-inspired tunes, is his ability to stay patient. In a genre where most producers rush to upload their tracks & remixes within 10 minutes of making them, patience is truly key. Drury’s tracks are always short and to the point, but they never seem to feel incomplete.

Today, we’re stoked to give you an exclusive stream of Glam Shell‘s debut EP, Soul & Stardust…

I rarely have an idea in mind when I go about making music, but I spend a lot of time just browsing through lots and lots of music or crate digging here and there to see what might pop up. There’s always a sort of click for me when I know something will make a good sample. If I’m out and about and I hear something I’ll pay attention to the lyrics and make a note of them to look up later. With Soul & Stardust though, it’s only four among a bunch of other tracks that I was working on that I thought reflected the aesthetic I was working for with the EP. I wanted to have a finished work that sort of  captured the quintessential summer vibe. All the sun, romance, drunken nights, drives with the windows down, etc. So even though it’s only a four track EP I wanted to get it all in there; something for dancing, something just to kick it to. It’s only about ten minutes long in total, but I wanted to keep it short and sweet, just like summer really.

Soul & Stardust will be available for free download via Glam Shell’s Bandcamp & SoundCloud on May 4th.
