In celebration of Guy Fridge‘s upcoming EP release, Callin’ You, 6BIT Collective (also his label for this release) has granted us a 2-day stream of the 3-track EP before its official release on Thursday, June 21st. With that said, enjoy the music, enjoy his latest mix (available below), and read through as G.F. himself interprets his latest work:

1.) “Callin’ You”

Juke music’s thundering syncopation and jolting tempos seem to lend themselves to rather exaggerated production styles. With “Callin’ You,” my aim was to play into this characteristic of juke music by crafting a song whose groove, propelled by punctuated 808 drums and acid-warped synths, was unrelenting and at times difficult to keep up with.

2.) “Liquid Bloom”

One of the most compelling characteristics of some club music, in my opinion, is its tendency to be self-contradictory in nature. The music is meant to be shared and danced to with others, however, in mood, the music often inspires feelings of introspection and self-contemplation. “Liquid Bloom” is basically an attempt at creating that very tension. The song attempts to be both melancholic and euphoric simultaneously.

3.) “Callin’ You (Dreams Remix)”

I was moved by Guy‘s track the second I heard it. The unpredictable combination of acid house with juke just literally blew my mind and inspired me to do a remix of the track. I’m so stoked to have been a part of this EP… very big tingzzz coming for Guy this year. (via Dreams)

And here’s what G.F. had to say about his latest mix, which was created in anticipation of Callin’ You and can be streamed and/or downloaded below:

Some of my favorite mixes are ones in which the track list consists of a series of artists who likely have no affiliation or connection to one another in any real world sense but who nonetheless make music that sounds vaguely comparable in one regard or another. In this mix, I tried my best to scour my library for a collection of tracks that seemed to fit together in an almost serendipitous way; I wanted to showcase the work of several artists in a way that is hopefully unique and would likely not occur elsewhere.

Tracklist:

1.) UNKNOWN – “Put U On”
2.) UNKNOWN – “Tru Luv”
3.) Source Direct – “Mind Weaver”
4.) Nadus – “Love Don’t Live Here”
5.) D^vid Firstly – “Flight Real”
6.) Nah Like – “Jewelz”
7.) Le1f – “Bubbles”
8.) Guy Fridge – “Liquid Bloom”
