Maths Time Joy – “Faces”

There really is an overabundance of producers. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, because ultimately it means more for us to consume. In order to get recognized though, you have to sport a fresh sound—something foreign to people’s ears, something that blends genres and gets people saying, “wow, this is a new wave of construction and production.” London’s Maths Time Joy is one of those new dudes that has run under the radar. His tune, “Faces,” has moments of psych brilliance glossed in a cool, warm glow. What makes this especially great is how the tune never gets flashy but still manages to hold your attention. It’s the subtleties that make his production style relevant. He doesn’t over-aggrandize transitions, or embellish melody lines to the point that the listener mistakes it for a fire alarm; he just keeps it simple, but ever so complex.
