Space Ghost – ‘You’re There’ LP

Just weeks after releasing their ginormous 41-track compilation, Atlantics Vol. 2 (feat. Space Ghost’s “Don’t Need U”), Astro Nautico are back, this time with the release of You’re There, the debut full-length from Oakland experimentalist, Space Ghost. Here’s what Space Ghost himself had to say about his glitchy, ambient-heavy debut:
For me, ‘You’re There’ represents that constant feeling as a musician of trying to push my skill level and sound. For the past few years, I’ve been waiting for the day when I know exactly what I’m making is what I should be making. I had a mini epiphany last fall and realized I will always be at the height of my knowledge and ability in the present, so basically I’m already there, or something like that. This release more so than any of my others felt like my first official release, because I finally felt as though I was making more than just “beats,” but rather was writing songs that were cohesive with each other in an album form. As a result, I made something I was very satisfied with, an album with a lot of organic sounding synths, textures, what I find to be interesting drum rhythms, and ambience. This album was also the first time I felt comfortable including purely ambient songs, up until now I was scared that my audience wouldn’t find the patience in that. I’m glad Astro Nautico let me release it through them, and I’m hoping this album might turn more heads towards the music I make.
