David Douglas – “California Poppy” (Official Video)

David Douglas is a Dutch producer that has just released his debut about a month ago. Royal Horticultural Society is, bizarrely, a kind of futuristic retrospective. It is a perfect combination of both old and new sounds, at once a look back and a glance forward. And in this case, it works out really well. An ode to an eighteenth century botanist also named David Douglas, the namesake lends itself to all together naturalistic tones in the midst of a pure electronic heart. The sounds evident on this album are so perfectly distinct and so perfectly married that it’s hard to believe this is Douglas’ debut.
Above is a most fitting visual exploration of these unique sounds, directed by David Douglas himself. A mysterious character wondering a familiar, yet alien, landscape. But things are about to get a whole lot weirder.
Stream Royal Horticultural Society below, and head over to the Atomnation Bandcamp to procure this beauty for yourself. And prepare yourself for some “electronic music for the mind”.
