Keats Collective – ‘Volume 1′

Jul 16, 2012 by     6 Comments    Posted under: Mixtapes, Sounds

And as if out of nowhere, the Keats Collective emerges from the depths of the internet, its first display of strength being a collective sound both diverse and almost entirely cohesive. Volume 1 is filled to the brim with choice beats from around the globe, all covered with a resounding layer of funk. There is little to know about the elusive Keats, but I can tell you about some of the artists on the compilation that caught my eye in the first place.

What drew me to this collective was a track on the mix from Occult You. Occult You is another side project of Japanese beat-smith Taquwami. I’ve had my eye on Taquwami for some time and even asked him to feature an exclusive on the Dopewave Is Real mixtape that myself, Flashlight Tag and Head Underwater put together back in May. Another previously appreciated artist, Sloslylove, appears on Volume 1. And after a few listens, it is clear that this is just the tip of the ice burg in regards to noteworthy artists featured.

I personally hope that more information unfolds about this collective, after all, you know how much we here at PORTALS love our collectives. As more unfolds, you will be the first to know. But for now, enjoy the full stream below, and be sure to download this bad boy yourself over at the Keats Collective Bandcamp.
