Khotin – “And I Feel Much Better Now”

Dylan Khotin-Foote of Happy Trendy is at it with a new project, Khotin. While previous works under Happy Trendy steered towards a world of guitar and drum-machine based experimental pop, Khotin sees Dylan’s focus leave that of typical guitar based song structure and move more towards the dancefloor.  While the production and sonic elements still seem to come from a similar place as many Happy Trendy recordings, “And I Feel Much Better Now” revisits these elements in a new light with a minimal techno glow. This new style shifts the focus to the raw sounds themselves instead of relying on a catchy melody or hook to carry the song.  The result is solid proof that Dylan’s songcraft has talent in a much broader palette than that of just his Happy Trendy material (although we should already know that from his earlier releases under Kumon Plaza back in 2010).  Peep some words on this new direction from the man himself, and check out “And I Feel Much Better Now” below:

I’ve been listening to a lot of techno lately, DJ’ing, and spending stupid amounts of money on records, so I guess it was kind of natural for me to dive into making that sort of music. It’s a lot of fun. I’m never really certain as to what kind of music I’ll be making a few months from the present, but this is what I’m having fun with right now and hopefully it sticks.
