Many Mansions is the project of Shane Donnelly, a Brooklyn by the way of Boston-based tribal experimentalist. His latest offering, Fleshtone Stargate For New Mind Bazaar channels sounds from around the world and re-contextualizes them into hypnotic dance grooves. Funky drums beckon listeners to dance, but the sample selections truly define the album and would intrigue even the most seasoned ethnomusicologist. Laotion khaens, Brazilian berimbaus, and chants from around the world are married to afrobeat rhythms and delivered with the trance-inducing impact of minimalism. Fleshtone Stargate for the New Mind Bazaar comes highly recommended as it’s equally suited for the club or for contemplation.
