ZEN WALLACE – “Humid”

Over the last year or so Poor Spirits (Carlos) has been steadily releasing deep sultry electronic instrumentals with melodic flows that let the mind wander easily. His music saw some changes and experimentations earlier this year adding some vocals of the autotune variety. I enjoyed them because it still captured the same vibes of his earlier work, but I still found myself drifting toward the instrumentals (such as VVOVV). A few months ago Carlos emailed me a new project of his, ZEN WALLACE, with some tracks that were very similar to his Poor Spirits instrumentals. Here’s the low down in his own words about the past and present:
Poor Spirits started with a good friend of mine, whiskey, an abandoned warehouse, two keyboards, and a laptop. It was fun, crazy, and never really meant to go anywhere. I sent it to blogs and met wonderful people who supported the tunes. When i decided to move to new york my friend stayed in california. It was difficult to work on stuff together. I released some albums on my own in brooklyn. It wasn’t the same. I couldn’t find the same spark. I then quit all my social media besides soundcloud. I like SoundCloud. Theirs no gimmicks with SoundCloud. Just music.
Ok ok ok no more tangents. I’m back. Zen Wallace is dat new.
I know my laptop may die at anytime. I still have the same keyboards. My software is all free and pretty hood. Nothing is ever mixed or mastered to industry standards. But fuck it. I love the feeling of creating. I can’t kick the habit.
