Between You And Me – “Crystal Aquarium”

I first started writing ‘Crystal Aquarium’ by spending countless nights on my balcony overlooking Miami Bay, Miami Beach, and the Atlantic Ocean. Even though the city never sleeps, it all felt incredibly peaceful. I would hear the occasional car horn and kids playing in the park below, but what I didn’t realize was how much of an impact the surrounding water had on my subconscious. I’ve been living in South Florida almost my whole life and have always felt a bizarrely profound connection to the ocean and its treasures. The beach has always been a default spot for gathering friends, and snorkeling and fishing in the Keys have always been just two hours away. When I finished the general sketches for the tunes, I noticed that each one took on an aqueous quality. It was instinctive, and I was definitely not consciously aware that I was going in that direction. As a group, the tracks played like an exploration of different parts of the ocean. ‘Crystal Aquarium’ began to fall into place and I didn’t even realize it.
