Foxes in Fiction – “Heaven or Las Vegas (Cocteau Twins cover)”

It’s been quite awhile since we’ve heard anything new from Foxes in Fiction (aka Warren Hildebrand). After the successful release of his excellent debut LP, Swung From The Branches, he unleashed the seven-track Alberto EP, along with a few singles, covers, and remixes. Since then, Warren has transplanted himself from Toronto to Brooklyn and is now in the process of finalizing new material, which you can definitely expect to hear before the years end. Last night he quietly released this gorgeous, dream-like cover of the Cocteau Twins classic, “Heaven or Las Vegas”, which feels especially fitting for Warren’s delicate tenor vocals.

From Foxes in Fiction:

Recording a cover of Cocteau Twins is something that’s been on the to-do list for a while, partly because I feel like my own music and theirs share several sonic and emotional commonalities, but my intense reverence and respect for their music always kept me from actually doing it, mainly out of fear of doing a terrible job. After several weeks of losing sleep over writing and recording my own songs, I decided the only way to maintain my sanity was to break away from my own creative process for a little while and make an attempt to work my recording methods around a song that was already out there and fully realized. There were a bunch of little things that I wanted to go back and change at the last minute, but I decided it would be in my own best interest to just stop editing it and put it out there as-is. I hope you all enjoy it.

Foxes in Fiction will be playing at our upcoming CMJ showcase co-presented with Stadiums and Shrines on October 17th @ La Sala.
