Ides – “16″

Youth is often lonely and unrewarding; a nasty ordeal. You could be walking on your own to a house party where all your closest friends are waiting but still feel like the smallest person around. This was a particular reality for me because back when I was 16 I was, true to my premonitions, a particularly short person. But that’s a sidenote. Youth is grim and it needs a soundtrack. Alanna McArdle aka. Ides provides like it’s a port of call. Every pronounced statement she bellows out from beyond her microphone feels like a stab in the side, a gentle reminder of the good and bad of being a teen.

Based in London, and playing a show over there tomorrow night with Drop Out Venus and Sserpress at the Sebright Arms, she’s one of the city’s most exciting talents, responsible for some of the finest, darkest solo tracks in recent existence.
