zeroh – Awaken2theNU

For someone who typically dismisses most new rap but loves the rap days of old, I immediately put aside my reservations upon hearing zeroh‘s “Barkpench”. This is a tune that demonstrates the California native’s unbelievable flow. His lyrical rhythm reminds me of Curren$y or Aesop Rock. They’re the breed of rapper that don’t really rap in complete sentences, but rather through quickly turnovered blips of grandiloquent imagery that border on comedic punches. It results in intense concentration required by the listener; you’re drawn into zeroh‘s interesting cadences and vocal tonal qualities… and his beats are so far left of the dope spectrum that they’re dope reborn.
