RUMTUM – “Dream Path”

RUMTUM aka John Hastings has been a long time favorite of the PORTALS crew. His work with Monster Rally may be his most notable to date, but his style is all his own. There’s a naturalistic vibe intrinsic to his sound, that either has you floating on top of the ways out at sea or deep in a native spirit trance.
This ‘miniEP‘ is no different, and exemplifies his melodic beat signature sound. The EP is freshly out today, and we’re happy to give you the first listen. John was kind enough to share with us some insights on the two-track EP which consisted of wise words with Sun Araw and Jamaican tapes:
After a show in Boise, I had the privilege to cross paths with Cameron Stallones aka Sun Araw. I was mainly inquiring Cameron for any tapes he would sell me, partially anything he recorded in Jamaica. He was kind enough to walk back to his van to dig up some merch for me, little did he know that tape was about to become my summer jam. I ended up getting to pick his brain over guitar amps and life in LA, the dude was a super chiller. After some deep words of wisdom and good conversation we parted ways, before leaving he told me to stay on the dream path. This spiritual quote has been a total guide to my life, especially in terms of being an artist. This is where the title of the track comes into play, “Dream Path”. This track expresses my love for the simple things in life and the freedom to follow dreams.
