Esprit 空想 -「girls only」

There’s mystery in these 7 pop-funk vignettes.  Besides claiming residence in Singapore and establishing an appreciation for half-remembered culture themes from the 80s/90s (there’s a track called “Emerald Hill Zone 2″), there is little background information on Esprit 空想.  What we do know, however, is that they’ve cracked the latest buzz genre, vaporwave, wide open.  Unlike the flashpan releases of fellow genre artists (i.e. Macintosh Plus), Esprit 空想 has edited a fantastic display of dreamy synth crystals, 8-bit splashes, and wet bass slaps with their release 「girls only」.  Esprit 空想 uses glitzy cultural concepts to influence and direct his pop sounds, with some compelling results.  Each track on「girls only」 steps beyond its source material and stands tall with original ideas and production. These tracks are all at once whimsical, sexy, and poignant.  There’s clearly something to notice here, so keep your vaporwave criticisms in check.  Esprit 空想 should be on everyone’s radar for 2013, so give them a friendly ‘like’ on Facebook and join in on the mystery.

You can download Esprit 空想‘s 「girls only」 for free here!  Keep in mind that 「girls only」 should be experienced with gapless playback and plenty of room for low-end frequencies.
