Self Evident – “Sleepa Holda” / “Basic Reps”
Prolific dance producer Self Evident has just unleashed three new creations onto his SoundCloud. Two of them are streamable below. Self Evident uses a minimal pallet of sounds to create a form of primal dance music, which I feel takes inspiration from dance hall, along with various other genres. He puts great emphasis on rhythm as it takes strong control of his tracks. In both of the pieces below, he leaves long intervals of percussion, bass and tom drums. In smaller breaks, obscure samples and sounds are used to form textured, blunt melodies that are, at times, not even noticeable.
Having a quick SoundCloud chat with Self Evident revealed that he will be releasing a full-length album in late April via Sound Fork Recordings. Also, he and his group Double Intention will be releasing an R&B record — including live vocals & a few vogue house releases — through his personal label Dipped Recordings (featuring Subcorr).
