Makthaverskan – “Asleep”

Some folks might have caught wind of Makthaverskan, a band of teenagers from Gothenburg, Sweden back in 2009 when Luxxury immediately signed them up and released their debut S/T album. Unfortunately I was not one of those folks, but I’m catching up upon hearing this new track from them. Their S/T LP was a frenetic rock album with Joy Division tendencies where the raw vocals of lead singer, Maja Milner, took center stage. After a few festival stints in Norway and Sweden, the band faded. Now they have a new album, Makthaverskan II, coming out on Luxxury, and judging by the first single, “Asleep”, the band and Milner have taken a broad leap in their sound.

With “Asleep” there’s a clear shift in overall style, sidling over to synth-mixed guitar melodies and an overall laid-back vibe. Milner’s vocals have grown into something spectacular. Her range brushes through a delicate verse before exploding through the chorus:

Is that me you’re dreaming of?

Makthaverskan II comes out on March 6th via Luxxury. The “Asleep” single will be digitally released on February 20th via Luxxury as well.
