“Warlords” is an olio of sounds and styles. In its production Dan Casey, a.k.a. Yalls, incorporates the squishy synths of electro-funk-revivalism while also finding room—lots of it, actually—for an ambient vibe as well. A song like this invokes the rare practice of thinking about music spatially. How do all of these elements fit within the parameters of just one track? One can only imagine how such vastness sounds pressed onto vinyl—and luckily, we can find out in just a few months.
“Warlords” is from Yalls’ upcoming album, United, out May 6th via Gold Robot Records.
