Pressed And - ”Creed Unlove”

Pressed And "Creed Unlove" Art

Pressed And is Mat Jones and Andrew Hamlet. Their third release, and first full-length, is just around the corner. Stone Candles will be out June 6th on Mush Records.

Below is the first cut off the new record, and it only serves to reinforce the unique musical relationship the two have found. Balancing each other’s strengths and weaknesses, Pressed And creates a sound entirely their own. The magic of their relationship is in their ability to marry these meditative folk elements with intricate electronic elements, empowering them both to live harmoniously under the warm roof of raw experimentation. Following both Imbue Up and Hyper Thistleit sounds like this release may be taking a more earthy feel, reflecting on the duo’s southern roots.

Listen to “Creed Unlove” below and let it act as further evidence of the nearly unending versatility of Pressed And.

snacs - Meaning Of

snacs

Josh Abramovici, aka snacs, first hit my radar with his single, “WildeWoman,” and he’s only gotten better since then. The young producer has a knack for gently flowing rhythms that flow naturally yet still pack a punch and have your head bobbing. And this gentle take on beat making is all the more evident in his new EP Meaning Of. It’s full of condensed melodies and samples, overlaid with a rich ambiance, and tactile beats. Listening gives you the feeling you’re floating. Below is one of my favorite tracks from the EP, “was a fool,” along with some words from Josh himself.

You can download the whole EP on his Bandcamp.

Here’s what Josh had to say about the EP:

I put together Meaning Of over the last few months. As a college student, I haven’t really had the opportunity to set aside a large chunk of time to focus only on music, so the EP came together more or less intermittently. As a result, it represents a progressing inspiration/sentimentality from the past couple months of my life, kind of like sporadic musical journal entries. In comparison to my first release, I feel like it’s a refined continuation of a similar vibe. They’re both six tracks each, and seem to flow like one another. Though none of that resemblance was really intentional, it underscores my delineating of my own style and sound as a producer. I’m in love with making this music, so regardless of how or in what form it comes out, I’m having fun. It’s super nice to be able to withdraw from the specifics of releasing/promoting, and fall back on that. For the future, I’m going to keep making and releasing music. Possibly a proper LP release in the summer, when I have more time to dedicate to it. Either way, more good vibes to come. <3

And if you haven’t, be sure to check out his side project with rapper Young Windex, called Bomb Ass Soup.

Windslo – ”Please Say”

windslo

I’ve been following Denver producer Windslo for a couple of years now. And he’s always been one of my favorites. He doesn’t put out a ton of music, but when he does it’s really good. It’s been nearly six months since he last dropped a track on his SoundCloud, until this week, when he uploaded his most recent effort, “Please Say.” It’s an honest track, emotive, and full. Both introspective and dance-worthy. I’m hoping there is more in store for the recent future, but at least for now we have this gem.

Here are a few words about the track from Tyler aka Windslo:

I was looking to develop a song in a two-step fashion that was uptempo, something that could easily mix in with R&B and hip-hop. I started chopping up a vocal sample and ended up with the main vocal hook, which was the driving force in developing the rest of the song. It also includes a small sample from the Rewrote track “Dreuya.”

The Unused Word –

theunusedword

The first time I heard this EP, I was in love with it. Anna, aka The Unused Word, starting producing when she was 20 and is classically trained in one of the most renowned cities in the world, Vienna. Still with all that in mind, it’s amazing how she is able to marry so many different types of music into her project. It’s a strange mixture of electronic, R&B, soul, rap, and a few others, I’m sure you could pinpoint if you listen close enough. And because of all this genre blending, the final product is like nothing you’ve heard before and somehow like everything you’ve heard before.

The lead track, “Heaven,” starts out with her pitched vocals over a progressive electro landscape before you get to hear what she really sounds like, which is like some kind of mature neo-soul vocalist. Especially surprising if you’ve seen a picture of her. But as the EP continues, different and more surprising elements are introduced. Like the rap track “Virgin Lines” featuring Austrian rapper Def IllEven though I can’t understand a word, the vibe is so right; I can’t stop listening. All this gushing to say that I was so happy to have stumbled upon this and am really looking forward to what else this talented little lady has in store for us.
