M|O|D II

It’s only been a few weeks since I found out about Trap Arnold. His beautiful juxtaposing of a nostalgia inducing Nickelodeon TV show with the technical instrumental aspect of southern hip hop associated with the sale of narcotics instantly attracted me to his music and persona. He has created a sort of warped character for himself which reminds me of those crazy dreams that you get where two completely unrelated characters in your life collaborate to help you, like if Arnold from Hey Arnold! and Young Jeezy were to help you out of a pickle together.

Soon after this discovery, it was made known to me that Trap (Wac)Arnold is a part of a team of sorts: M|O|D, which features four other equally as prolific characters, Lil’ Texas, Rewrote, C.Z. and of course Young Satan, all having their own enticing, don’t-give-a-fuck personas. I instantly downloaded their collaborative M|O|D I release, which features at least one track by each artist, I recommend downloading it as a prologue to their today released: M|O|D II.

M|O|D II is some future shit to say the least. Crossing in and out of Chicago footwork and deep trap it provides the perfect combination of quick 808 sidestick patterns, dancing hi-hats and slow burning sub kicks. One thing that ties all these pieces in together is the jaw (and ass) dropping rhythms and grooves these guys pull off. Every one of these bangers could stand alone confidently as a singular release; however M|O|D humbly added them up together in a beautifully packaged zip file, including superior album art as seen above.

I’ve been in a relatively consistent tweet conversation with some of the M|O|D gang and have pulled out some quotes regarding M|O|D II for your reading pleasure:

We love 40′s. We geek on each other’s music. We are from all over the u.s. we love rare honeys. We’re between the ages of 19-23. CZ loves patterns. We take him of field trips to Joann fabric every Sunday. And also we love precious metals. We all embrace our own sound. Not to sound cliche but we don’t give a fuck about what we sound like. We want to emote a vibe –Trap Arnold

These days are the days of scandal.  These are scandalous days.  These days are days that are scandalous.  No matter what they may have told you in nursery school, nothing has prepared you for the sheer carnage, romance, betrayal, brutal terror, steamy hot fantasy & aesthetic comic relief like all four tracks of MOD II.   Young Satan

For whatever reason my contributions to the first record were songs I didn’t really hate and for whatever other reason the songs I wrote for the second one wound up being songs that were harder for me to dislike. Since there are five of us, and since we all hang out, it was pretty obvious to the dudes which tunes of mine I hated less ’cause of the dumb grin on my face. So that sorted itself. Separately, the fact that so many people have heard of M|O|D still blows my mind. Every day I hear about some kid listening to our shit in class or someone new who likes or has heard our music, or my music. It makes sense because in spite of the fact that M|O|D happened by accident, but is simultaneously by no means accidental. Volume III is on its way, we’re all proud of it. That shit is still humbling as fuck though – Rewrote

M|O|D III is already in the oven. Portals will be having exclusive coverage of that when it’s ready and will hopefully include fully fleshed out character profiles of the team.
