Poppy Red - ‘Keep Your Heart’ EP

Poppy Red is the dreamy long-distance collabration project between friends Molly Long and Jimmy Spice (Liquid Skulls, Low Praises). Over the past year the pair have been constructing their latest EP Keep Your Heart, even though the distance of their long-distance friendship was particularly… well, long. The resulting tracks are as haunting and sparse as you’d expect, and yet they are cohesive enough that you’d never guess that they have so many miles under their belt.

Also, thanks to a recent move, Molly is now a permanent fixture of the Austin music scene and has begun prepping a live representation of Poppy Red .This new lineup includes (but is not limited to) fellow Jimmy Spice collaborator Neil Lord (Low Praises, Future Museums). So should you find yourself in the Live Music Capitol of the World, make sure to keep the binoculars handy.

From Molly:

Jimmy and I made the songs on this EP last year while I was living in France and he was living in Memphis. I holed up and played hermit in my studio apartment for much of the winter, and these songs are what came out of it. Jimmy was sort of doing the same thing in Memphis, not going out much, not talking to many people, mulling everything over quietly. So we were in the same space mentally despite being on separate continents. A lot of my songs are about conflicting desires for intimacy and solitude. Both Jimmy and I have always thrived on that kind of mood, so it’s easy for us to work together. I know when I send him a song he’ll pick up on the atmosphere I’m trying to create and twist it around in some interesting way.
