Wismar, Germany’s unhappybirthday have a new Tape-EP, Kraken, coming out in February via Night People. The title track “Kraken” is the fist visual from it, sporting a lighter touch to their coldwave synth style.

We wrote the song on a cloudy October day last year. After watching High School Musical a hundred times and experiencing weeks of solitude, we wanted to write a cheesy ballad, but we ended up with this catchy guitar melody. And the rest came easily. After we played the song for one hour without getting enough of it, we recorded it on a 4 track. The recording sounds like a rough sketch, but we like that unfinished charm.
The video is a tribute to the classic Kar-Wai Wong 1995 noir film Chungking Express. It was filmed off a TV after being run through a 90′s Radio Shack analog video processor modified by Tachyons+.
