Cassius Select - “Suss Strut”

Cassius Select is a fresh venture by Sydney’s Lavurn Lee (Guerre). His sound varies from uplifting to dark but remains organic. The first four pieces released on his YouTube page are only slowly making circulation among explorers, however he has already performed at the recent Fitz Fest under the moniker and is set to play a few more techno themed nights in Sydney in the coming months. His track, “Suss Strut” is the standout and most accessible of his small collection of uploads. Its dry, thumping percussion is inviting to say the least, his uplifting chord progression is tucked perfectly behind the catchy vocal sample.

Earlier in the year this video was compiled of a collaborative improvised set by Gardland and Cassius Select. Shot and edited by Lenny Gash.

From Cassius Select:

Rhythm generally means a “movement marked by the regulated succession of strong and weak elements, or of opposite or different conditions.” This general meaning of regular recurrence or pattern in time can apply to a wide variety of cyclical natural phenomena having a periodicity or frequency of anything from microseconds to millions of years.
