Artist Mix is an ongoing series of mixtapes curated by some of our favorite artists.
This month features some sentimental selections from the white-hot discoball dance arson Saint Pepsi. After a handful of singles, an extensive line of self-released mixtapes, and his highly acclaimed Keats Collective debut Hit Vibes, the New England-based producer gets back to his roots. Saint Pepsi has dusted off a fascinating mix of rare indie deep cuts from the golden era of emo that contributed to his formative years. Here’s what the man himself had to say:
The idea of an artist mixtape in and of itself is so liberating to me, especially because I built and worked this project anonymously for the better part of 4 months. Anonymity definitely has its advantages, especially in today’s musical climate, but I’ve been suspicious that Saint Pepsi might come off as one-dimensional to some people. This is a mixtape I’ve always wanted to give someone and I’m happy to have an outlet to share it. Saint Pepsi became a cool way for me to share music I grew up with and love with a lot of people; this is another side of a two-headed, likely counterfeit coin.
