The bright, driving arrangement of Love Inks‘ new single, “Solar Diary,” belies the uncertain vulnerability of singer Sherry LeBlanc’s words. What at first hits as a confident summer jam soon reveals itself to be an earnest plea for another chance from a lover. She fully puts herself out there, longing to know if this is something real, if she is being understood as a person. “Don’t say you wanted to stay if you wanted to leave me/If you could only hold on one last time, if you could only believe me, believe me, believe me.” The repetition of this question becomes heartbreaking, enveloped by a buzzy two note bassline, droning synths, swells of tape echo, and a propulsive analog drum machine loop.
“Solar Diary” is the first single from the Austin trio’s forthcoming full length, Generation Club, which will see release on September 24th.
