The vibrant hues that shade a sunset sky often impart some wisdom as to what gifts the night has to offer. When the sun fades, an insatiable lust for a nocturnal affair starts to burn until you eventually find yourself shrouded in the nights secrets, awaiting a night of revelations or sweet, simple nothingness.
Two very airy, translucent pop songs have gotten the adventure of Orlando duo Sæs off to a great start.
“Passed Out (It’s Night Time)” is an imperial gem that shimmers brightly as the boy and girl vocals dance on beautiful, folky guitar strums and smooth, chill beats that fade in and out to form perfect symmetry. Jennifer’s lush, tepid vocals are juicy bites from an apple tree of dreams, floating somewhere between the ethereal crooning of Cocteau Twins and an echoey, twee-pop swooner, singing the words “as long as I’m home by ten” with an earnestness that sprinkles innocence throughout the track. It makes me feel bad about all those ridiculous late-nighters.
When she steps out on her own in “Alcanzame,” all the majesty and enchantment from the first track is taken up a notch. Her vocals are wistful, yet alluring, slowly succumbing to a much stronger, slightly woozier downtempo. This creates a mesmeric aura that allows Jen’s sweet, ambrosial harmonies to drone through each transition, giving the beat free range to pull her voice into a rich, purling ecstasy, slowly drawing it off the canvas until their next stroll into the young night.
Two sounds down and tons more to come as this project begins to pick up steam. Their SoundCloud will be a good place to keep tabs on them until then.
