During our conversation weeks ago, Jordan Shih, aka JSHIH, offhandedly brought up the subject of his new project. At the time, the idea came together sort of differently in my head. I had known it would be a collaboration, but the balance on this minimal production isn’t exactly how I imagined things would result.

With Shih now closely working alongside Lauren Morgan. The two have been able to produce a charming sound to go with the project’s first single, “renee.” The mix on the vocals compliment the simple guitar track throughout the song, and the drum machine sits well behind the entire mix. It’s a tasteful little number and even with the contrast from Shih’s electronic projects of the past, the flair that’s been left behind isn’t entirely lost on the production. The enchanting touch becomes key to the sensibilities behind SALES‘ only track available so far. Going forward, the softer elements may prove to be a bit more manageable on a full release, while still being able to feed off the delicate impression that’s already in place.
