“Zip A Dee Doo Dah” is the first cut off of Bill Orcutt‘s upcoming release, A History of Every One. The track’s fractured melodies and savage rhythms showcase Orcutt’s cubic-virtuosity at it’s finest. Twisted coos emerge between aggressive picking, revealing a sound that is more closely related to the cathartic shrieks of Ornette Coleman‘s saxophone than the American Primitive stylings of John Fahey‘s guitar.
A History of Every One takes its title from the Gertrude Stein novel, The Making of Americans and witnesses Orcutt reinterpreting the traditional American songbook with cuts that include Disney themes, delta blues standards, and hymns.
The destruction of “Zip A Dee Doo Dah” has me quite excited to hear A History of Every One in it’s completion via Editions Mego on September 30th. Pre-order an LP here.
