Aaron Powell’s Fog Lake project continues to draw inspiration from the like-minded community of the Birdtapes label. Powell’s SoundCloud has only been home to covers of Elvis Depressedly and Nirvana prior to completing the triad with his latest cover of R.L. Kelly‘s “Life’s a Bummer.” But of course you can still listen to Fog Lake’s original releases on his Bandcamp.
The fondness found with this cover is clearly well attributed in its production. It’s a soothing thought to know R.L. Kelly’s release has remained as influential and relatable today as when it was originally released back in February. Life’s a Bummer became a release shrouded by its introspective nature, and much of that has certainly been carried over onto this cover. The original is still mostly parallel to Fog Lake’s rendition, yet the softer guitar tones and the ambient noise surrounding the vocals both make this track a calming experience for late nights where a change of pace is needed.
