Sephari - “Minimize”

The Ann Arbor producer channels his inner Soulja Boy on his latest track.

This new track from the mind of Ann Arbor’s Sephari sounds, literally, as if it has sprung directly out of his mind—a mind both muffled and muddled, yet on the verge of awakening, moving forward in spurts of lucidity. The trance-like, distorted vocals and guitar bed the song in a somnolent haze, but the melodies that glide and skitter above it buoy it up to a higher level of awareness. The inclusion of a Soulja Boy banger, sounding as if it is playing inside a club while the listener stands outside of it, strengthens that sensation of inhabiting a consciousness that is lost within itself. The subject is quarantined within the nearly soundproof boundaries of thought, though it is not completely stifling-a little bit of reality still bleeds through the walls.
