Red Alder seems to be a project that hinges on quietness. Not only does Kelsie Brown deal in gentle, atmospheric dream pop but she delivers it with a sigh and closed eyes. Not to mention the fact that the project was, at one time, quietly retired by Brown and then shortly thereafter quietly revived. None of it calculated mind you, it’s just that Red Alder deals almost exclusively in tenderness and anything else would strictly be uncharacteristic.

As she readies her next album, Kelsie has unveiled its first single in the form of “Felted.” The track adopts a gingerly pace early on as keyboard and synth elements construct and deconstruct themselves over the tracks three brisk movements. And on top of it all is Kelsie’s voice, whispering the beautiful yet subtly haunting melody into your ear, gracefully nudging you along.
