“School of Fish,” from the recent Follies / Wishbone split, wrings its opening melody dry. Jasper McMahon’s voice trickles down like a water drop on a pane of glass. Piano notes trail behind, slick against the surface. When McMahon pauses, guitars punch in and halt the movement entirely. It’s quick and simple play between elongation and reduction, and as the song builds the two modes alternate with increasing speed. By the song’s close, they feel as one.
