“Goop” is usually unwanted and almost always sticky. It’s the stuff that’s set aside—residue, byproduct. On “Piano Goop,” Seth Graham moves straight for the goop and molds it into musical shape. On each plodded piano chord, Graham puts his hands into the instrument and comes back up with something unanticipated. It’s messy and residual, but at no point disgusting or uncomplex.
As the track fades into a soft and subtle chorus of voices, the goop washes away. Goop gone, the composition ends feeling fresh and squeaky clean.
