Black metal doesn’t need saving, but were that the case I’d nominate Bosse-de-Nage as its unwitting savior. They always play by their own rules, and those rules end up becoming a blueprint for a new and exciting hybrid for what the genre could be. On their sophomore album, simply titled iii, the band tore through the landscape forcefully pulling brutality and accessibility along with them, one in each hand. Now they are preparing to release their third and most prominent album All Fours for metal powerhouse Profound Lore. And if their calculations are correct they could very easily enjoy a crossover success that they’ve yet to experience.

Much like its title suggests, “A Subtle Change” adjusts the band’s calibrations ever so slightly before stomping the pedal completely to the floor. Considering where the band has come from, the single finds them at probably their most catchy but don’t be mistaken, there is still a fire lit in their belly. For those new to the band, it’s a fantastic introduction, and for those who’ve followed the band for a while, it’s simply another reason to be excited about where the future takes them.
