A constant summer sounds ideal, right? Think how great it’d be to have endless road tips and infinite sunsets, a constant stream of salad days that perfectly capture the naivety of growing up. On the other hand, there’s a certain quality to being in the first grasp of autumn—a distinctive breeze that winds you down gently and prepares you for the coming bitterness whilst painting a nostalgic layer to those summer memories.
“Constant Summer,” the first track lifted from the debut self-titled album by Nudes, is effectively pop-punk for grown ups, and sounds more like an engine winding down after pulling up to an idyllic view than initial effervescent energies of the season. At just over two minutes long, it combines shout-along vocals with hazy riffs and a nod-along melody that’s reminiscent of Whirr or Pity Sex, but without the oodles of despair. Sure, there’s melancholy here—but underneath all the jarring fuzz are fizzing vibes just waiting to pick you up out of a slump.
