Monthly Residency: Monster Rally (Week 4)

Jan 28, 2013 by     No Comments    Posted under: Features, Monthly Residency

In his final week as our artist resident, Ted (aka Monster Rally) details his debut art opening and shares a few collages that didn’t make it onto the walls of the gallery.

Monster Rally: Week 4

When we left off last week I was about to have the opening reception of my first ever solo exhibition at End of Century in New York. After a stressful couple of weeks preparing all the work and music for the show, it was great to see the culmination of my efforts. One of the hardest things I had to do before the opening of the show was to decided which pieces to leave off the wall. I probably brought twice the amount of artwork that could fit on the wall with me to New York, so getting everything on the wall would have been impossible.

I’d like to share a few of my favorite pieces that didn’t make it into the show.

Color Face #3. 2012

The show was an incredible experience, the turn out was great and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Big thanks to the girls from End of Century, Daniel from PORTALS and Ivey and Janet from Impose. I’m planning on setting up a similar music/art event in Los Angeles now that I’m back home.

Thanks for having me as the PORTALS Resident for January! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I have.

Photo Journal: Monster Rally Art Show

This past Friday, something quite magical happened. A very small store called End of Century opened its doors for a very special art opening by Ted Feighan, as well as an hour-long Monster Rally set. Although the space was small, it didn’t stop anyone from packing the joint from corner to corner…

PORTALS 1-Year Anniversary Party

Jan 21, 2013 by     No Comments    Posted under: Events

This year PORTALS grew from concept through conception to where we are today. A year—just 12 months, just 365 days—a time so brief that it feels difficult to believe. As we smile in thanks for the past year, we smile ear to ear in excitement of the year to come. What that will consist of is now secret, but soon enough, we’ll bare it all.

Join us in celebrating the PORTALS’ 1-Year Anniversary—a celebration of our past and our future. This event is a thanks to all who has made what we have done and what is to come a reality. A thanks to you, and you, and you. We’ll pop the champagne in Los Angeles at the newly opened Delicious Vinyl shop in Hollywood, and dance through performances from Monster Rally and D33J. And for all who won’t be able to make it, the event will be streamed live online here. Say cheers with us.

RSVP :: PORTALS 1-Year Anniversary Party :: February 9th, 2013 :: 8-10PM :: All-Ages :: FREE :: Delicious Vinyl shop, 6607 Sunset Boulevard Los Angeles, CA 90028

Teddy’s latest entry features behind-the-scenes photos from his looming art opening.

Monster Rally: Week 3

After a long drive from Cleveland to Manhattan last night, I’m in New York. I’ve just returned from installing all of my artwork in the gallery and the show is tomorrow night! If you’re in the New York area tomorrow night come out to End of Century between 6-9pm for my art opening and live Monster Rally show!

Here are some photos that capture the installation process:

Monthly Residency: Monster Rally (Week 2)

Monster Rally aka Teddy Feighan returns with news of his very first gallery exhibit, as well as an untamable infatuation with Doom and his cartoony persona.

Monster Rally: Week 2

I’ve spent the better part of the past seven days working on and organizing my artwork. I’m going to be showing my work for the first time in New York next week at the End of Century Gallery. The show is going to feature several of my recent paper collage works. In addition to the visual work, I’m going to be playing the opening of the show next Friday (More about the show).

While working on what seems to be endless framing, I’ve been listening almost exclusively to Metal Fingers Special Herbs Volumes 0-9. For those of you not familiar with this instrumental series of productions by DOOM, I would stop whatever you’re doing right now and listen immediately (full albums available Spotify).

One of my favorite things about DOOM is his cartoony villain persona. This, combined with dedicated and talented fans, has lead to some of the best music-related art. Last year for Christmas my fiancé gave me this (below) print of Jason Jagel’s piece, ‘Part of a Complete Breakfast’, which serves as the cover for ‘MM Food‘.

Jagel is one of my favorite artists working today. I love his use of multiple perspectives, geometric shapes, and extremely bold colors. You can really get lost in his work for hours and his book ‘Funshine 73‘ is a must have for your library.
