Uncle Marty - “Arkansas Blues”

Every so often, I remember what I love about music. It isn’t about gear, fame, or when the beat drops. It’s about earnest, soulful self expression. Uncle Marty is my reminder this time around. Uncle Marty is the solo project of Mark Garrison, a member of the legendary florida band Lighthouse Music. Incorporating influences of Tom Waits, Miles Davis, and even Man Man, Lighthouse Music sounded like no one else around. Now, Marty takes those same influences and creates wholesome ballads about his personal life in honest, even funny ways.

Maybe I’m a sap for slow, sad songs but “Arkansas Blues” brings me to a place out in the midwest (possibly in a wheat field or something) waiting for my loved ones to come home. Ok, yeah, I’m definitely a sap, but the song does call for flowery imagery. Marty’s new album, Word Jazz, is out right now on Bandcamp or CD.
