The Unused Word – ’∞’
The first time I heard this EP, I was in love with it. Anna, aka The Unused Word, starting producing when she was 20 and is classically trained in one of the most renowned cities in the world, Vienna. Still with all that in mind, it’s amazing how she is able to marry so many different types of music into her project. It’s a strange mixture of electronic, R&B, soul, rap, and a few others, I’m sure you could pinpoint if you listen close enough. And because of all this genre blending, the final product is like nothing you’ve heard before and somehow like everything you’ve heard before.
The lead track, “Heaven”, starts out with her pitched vocals over a progressive electro landscape before you get to hear what she really sounds like, which is like some kind of mature neo-soul vocalist. Especially surprising if you’ve seen a picture of her. But as the EP continues, different and more surprising elements are introduced. Like the rap track “Virgin Lines” featuring Austrian rapper Def Ill. Even though I can’t understand a word, the vibe is so right; I can’t stop listening. All this gushing to say that I was so happy to have stumbled upon this and am really looking forward to what else this talented little lady has in store for us.
