“Headsgiving,” the latest single from Pleasantville, NY band PORCHES., opens with the line “I give you head before you head to therapy.” If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t really notice lyrics upon first listen, you probably are now. While they are always delivered in a humorous and honest manner, PORCHES. are all about putting their messages out there in as frank a manner as possible. It’s this sort of direct speaking, in addition to their mournful melodies, that remind me a lot of the bittersweet melancholy of Pedro the Lion. Not to mention the fact that frontman Aaron Maine flat-out sounds like a re-imagined David Bazan.

On their proper debut album, Slow Dance in the Cosmos, PORCHES. spit-shine their MO and stretch it effortlessly out among 10 tracks, with each track sounding stronger than the last. Mark your calendars, it’s out on August 27th via Exploding In Sound Records.
