Ry X - “Berlin”

Listen to the gorgeous new number from the LA-based folk singer.

Somewhere between the acoustic elegance of Jose Gonzales and Justin Vernon’s (Bon Iver) picture perfect range, LA-based Australian Ry X entrancing howls lure you into his latest haunted folk-pop gem, “Berlin.”

There’s just something about every lyric, every gorgeous note hit. It’s been a while since a folk record has struck a chord with me the way this one has. The lush acoustic opening gracefully leads into Ry X’s first climatic howl, slowly descending back into a more rich, alluring arpeggio and peaking every so often do deliver shivering lyrics such as “tell me I’m not going home and I’ll stop waiting by the phone.” Like a fox in the wild, Ry X channels a force that’s both mysterious and cunning. His sounds play on the minds curious nature by leading in with intimate harmonies, only to lyrically impale you at every turn, slowly building a whirlpool of the most beautiful sadness you’ve ever heard.

With such pristine pitch and a gift for poignant, highly captivating songwriting, Ry X is a brilliant creature you can’t help but admire from afar, but only at the cost of your own heartbreak.

Ry X’s Berlin EP drops August 28th via Dumont Dumont, a new Stockholm-based label founded by Magnus Bohman of Imperial Records.
